Mayer Chiropractic and Wellness Philosophy
My primary purpose is to increase the health of my practice members.
This is accomplished through the 5 pillars of health. The 5 pillars of
health are Nutrition, exercise, adequate rest, emotional health and a
healthy nervous system. This last one is my specialty. All chiropractors
move bones in order to take the pressure off your nerves. If a nerve
is being interfered with (pulled, rubbed, pinched, etc...) the message
it's carrying to or from the brain gets jumbled. The result is pain,
numbness, muscle spasm, a compromised immune system, loss of normal motion,
headaches, constipation, high blood pressure, and so on and so on. Any
symptom you have can be the result of nerve interference. If you have
nerve interference, does it make sense to take medication? This will
only address the symptom and not the cause. Chiropractic looks at the
body as a whole and determines what is needed to restore health. Mayer
Chiropractic and Wellness offers a proactive and corrective approach
to healthcare by using gentle and specific techniques, cutting edge technology,
and ethical practices to meet the needs and diversity of each practice
member. If you feel you may benefit from chiropractic care, schedule
an appointment or ask Sara about our free consultation.
About
Dr. Brent
Brent Mayer was raised in Clinton, Utah. He was brought up in a good
family and taught strong values. He attended Fremont Elementary, Sunset
Jr. High, and Clearfield High School. He served a mission in the great
Missouri, St. Louis Mission. Five days after returning home from Missouri,
he moved down to Provo and attended UVSC. After marrying his sweetheart,
Shauna, they moved to Ogden and finished up with classes at WSU to get
his B.S. degree. In 1996, Brent was accepted to Western States Chiropractic
College in Portland, Oregon. After graduation he moved back to Utah and
worked in a postceptorship/associateship with Dr. Russell Harward in
Sandy. In March of 2003, Dr. Brent joined forces with his brother, Steve,
also a chiropractor. They moved into their new building in October less
than a month after moving his family from Roy to Syracuse. Dr. Brent
is very excited about the community he works in and is anxious to serve
and help as many people as possible. Dr. Brent strongly believes that
health and happiness does not happen by accident, but by a conscious
choice to lead a healthy lifestyle and to utilize all that chiropractic
has to offer.
Q: Dr. Brent, what got you interested in chiropractic?
A: While serving my mission in Missouri, I became acquainted with
a chiropractor, Dr. Rand Olsen. I asked him if I could come into his
office to be evaluated. I didn't have any complaints at the time but
he found some things that definitely needed some work. Dr. Olsen was
very open about what he was doing and did a great job answering my many
questions. At one point, Dr. Olsen asked me if I was interested in chiropractic
as a profession. My response was that I wanted to be an engineer like
my father. After taking a few college courses required in an engineering
degree, I realized I wasn't enjoying the things that I was learning.
After reaching the conclusion that my future wasn't going to be as an
engineer, I just knew chiropractic was where my passion is.
Q: Dr. Brent, what is your philosophy about health?
A: I believe in order to have good health you must address all aspects
of life. Have you ever heard of the 5 Pillars of Health? The pillars
are nutrition, exercise, proper rest, emotional/mental well being, and
my specialty-a nervous system that is free from interference. When someone
seeks chiropractic care, I address all of the pillars. My goal is to
empower my practice members to address the deficiencies they may have
in any of the pillars in order to bring about true health and happiness.
Q: I know there's many different adjusting techniques. Dr. Brent how
do you adjust your patients and why?
A: In school I learned the traditional manual adjusting (the twist
and pop) and really enjoyed it. After graduation, I worked with a doctor
who taught me a new technique that aligned with my personality. I use
an energy technique to evaluate the spine as well as all the joints of
the body to decide what areas need to be adjusted and then I use a hand-held
instrument called and Activator to adjust. It's a very specific and gentle
way of adjusting, and as my practice members can attest, gets amazing
results.
Q: Dr. Brent, why do you feel chiropractic is so important?
A: That's a great question. Let me start off by saying that there
is ample evidence which shows chiropractic has existed as long as there
have been spines. It wasn't until 1895 that chiropractic began to be
organized and taught as a profession. In today's world we are surrounded
by sources of stress to our bodies. Whether it be pollutants in our air
and water, the lack of proper nutrition in our diets, professions that
require us to sit all day long, the sedentary lifestyle many individuals
choose, the medication dependant culture we live in, etc...etc.. It is
quite overwhelming and many of us are quite unaware of how severe the
problem really is. There's a great analogy I like to use.. If you look
at a circuit breaker or an old fuse box, it's similar to how our bodies
work. If there's too much stress on the line, the breaker trips. Our
bodies can only handle so much. The more stress we have, the more subluxations
we have, the more we need chiropractic. It's as simple as that. |
